Modern bathroom renovations are the ultimate self-care design project. Kitchens, living rooms, foyers – for most of the home, the needs of others often enter the equation, prompting this decision or that purchase. By comparison, primary baths are private, low-traffic areas, making design calls about one person: yourself. It’s pretty fitting, considering modern bathroom renos, the ones below included, are all personalizing a space, and maximizing its potential for resting and relaxation. Multifunctional Minimalism
For busy parents to four young children, the convenience of a spa a few steps from the bed is something precious. Akb Architects cleverly packs a potentially chaotic list of luxurious features into streamlined volumes. The vanity, a glorious three-metre stretch of custom storage, does it all with barely there details like concealed pulls, hidden outlets and sandblasted light strips on the face of a medicine cabinet–style mirror. In a similarly uniform fashion, metre-wide marble-look porcelain slabs envelop a shower, tub and accent wall for visual unity. Private time in this modern bathroom – lit with a skylight commencing at head-height and soaring past the ceiling line – enjoys an exclusive sky view. AKB.CA

An Artful and Modern Commode
A white-on-white palette for a family home might run the risk of looking sterile, but Cindy Rendely Architexture makes this one inviting with uncomplicated neutrals, softening details and a pop of nature. Pebble grey limestone adds a soothing touch of warmth to the floors of this modern bathroom without straying too far from the white theme. A modern floating vanity for storage preserves floor bathroom space and supports twin sculptural, round-edged Sabbia vessel sinks paired with wall-mounted fixtures, both by Boffi. Just opposite, in a matching soaker, bath time is playtime for child and parent alike, as the tub is set in front of Hermès accent wallpaper gone wild, replete with parrots, monkeys and palms. Glimpses of the jungle scene are reflected in a graphic composition of mirror strips placed minimally on the blank wall, while unexpected elements like an Innit Design Acapulco chair and Vitra’s Akari floor lamp are a reminder that modern bathrooms are technically living rooms, too. A Bathroom to Relax and Recharge
StudioAC forgoes conventional layouts in this open-concept and modern bathroom renovation designed for a client who well knows the joys of a long soak. At one end of the narrow building’s reframed attic, the bathing area is a doorless escape, separated from the bedroom by a stroll-in dressing area – a spatial technique that allows one to prepare for the day without interrupting their partner. Matched to the home’s white oak and wall scheme, this casual zone accommodates a sink, vanity and mirror, including mirror-mounted sink fixtures and a vertical glass strip to help transfer natural light. A simple yet stark change in tone creates the feeling of leaving the home and entering a spa: clad top to bottom in warm grey stone-look ceramic, the vaulted tub zone is truly a temple to the bath gods, complete with a sunset-facing view.
