A unique experience centre designed in collaboration with Omar Gandhi
Fisher & Paykel’s Toronto Experience Centre, set in the historic Boiler House in Liberty Village, blends heritage and innovation in an immersive space that showcases the brand’s legacy of design excellence. “Weathered brick, textured plaster, and exquisite stonework combine to evoke emotional resonance,” says Omar Gandhi, founder of Omar Gandhi Architects—who collaborated with the New Zealand brand on the centre’s captivating design. “The result is a layered and intimate spatial experience. Jane Jacobs once said, ‘new ideas need old buildings,’ and this project reflects that philosophy. By integrating heritage elements with contemporary design, we’ve created a space that is both timeless and forward-looking.”
Toronto’s diverse design culture finds harmony in this space, where old-world industrial character meets sculptural modernity. Locally quarried stone and North American timber complement the patina of exposed steel beams and century-old brick. Richly textured plaster—deep red and earth-toned—adds warmth and tactility, drawing visitors into an experience that’s both sensory and functional.
“Canada and New Zealand share a deep respect for culture, design, and environment,” says Fisher & Paykel CEO Daniel Witten-Hannah. “Through our work with Omar Gandhi and our luxury kitchen partners, we’re showcasing the potential of our appliances in some of the world’s best kitchens, framed by Toronto’s rich industrial heritage.”
Five distinct kitchen spaces anchor the experience, each crafted with world-class partners to showcase different styles and functionalities. The Social Kitchen redefines cooking as a shared experience, featuring a stainless-steel Arclinea island and a custom dining table by Canadian designer Christian Woo. The Minimal Kitchen, integrated with Gibson Greenwood’s bespoke millwork, embodies understated elegance. Beyond the kitchens, the Fabric Care Experience elevates garment care with a focus on innovation and refined aesthetics, while the Plan and Choose space invites architects, designers, and homeowners to collaborate with Fisher & Paykel consultants to tailor solutions to their specific needs.
More than a retail space, the Experience Centre immerses visitors in the brand’s philosophy of “raw sophistication.” Sculptural installations punctuate the showroom, reinforcing the idea that great design is not just about function but also about emotion. “The Toronto Experience Centre is a physical manifestation of our commitment to insight-led performance,” notes Witten-Hannah. Set against a backdrop of exposed brick and timeworn steel, the Liberty Village flagship blends past and present, offering Toronto consumers an interactive and inspiring environment to envision their dream spaces.
