Post Design Relaunches with New and Distinct Visual Identity

East End Design Collective Debuts Inaugural Furniture Collection

As far as first impressions go, Post Design understands the importance of getting it right. “When starting our studio, we made sure to keep a focus on how pieces were documented, described, and photographed, especially as we had chosen to focus on a retail model that was primarily online,” says brand co-founder Jp Guay. “Our relaunch is a reflection of this, seen through our current design interests and preferences as both a studio, and individuals,” he adds.

In 2018, Guay, along with co-founder Amanda Mota launched the brand out of a mutual interest in design-inspired by the pieces they had sourced to furnish their own space in Toronto. One of two outlets under the “Post” umbrella – in addition to Post Creative, a series of designed studio spaces for rent by the hour – Post Design primarily serves as a vintage furniture shop. “Ultimately, our brand is a collective, part of a diverse studio focusing on the curation of design, creative spaces and authentic furniture, objects and wares,” says Guay.

Last month, Post announced a coveted relaunch featuring a new catalogue, new partnerships and a new space. The result is a unique retail concept that is both highly conceptualized yet elegantly understated.

In Post Design’s Munro Street showroom, where shoppers can browse products by appointment, items of Post Design’s most recent collection include pieces from the likes of Cassina, Kartell, Artek, Fritz Hansen, as well as designers including Percival Lafer, Alvar Aalto, Carl Öjerstam, Marcel Breuer and more.

“This relaunch will be the first time we are introducing other brands into our shop, which will allow us to not only offer furniture and larger pieces, but rather day-to-day goods, homewares, and curated objects,” says Guay. “One of our most recent partners, Catalogue Three, gives us the opportunity to offer hand selected one-of-one, handmade rugs, flatweaves, from around the world.”

For Post Design’s first collection since its relaunch, the studio brought in specifically curated pieces that mesh together, despite the differences in their history, origin, materials, and styles. From the warmth of the bookmatched burlwood plinth coffee table in the style of Milo Baughman, to the elegant and sleek curves of the Panton Chairs by Verner Panton, every piece has its unique visual marker, yet work so well as a set. 

“A personal favourite in this newest collection would be the Safari Easy Chair by Ched Berenguer Topacio,” says Guay. “It’s one of very few produced by the Filipino designer as part of an experimental design series showcased in Dubai in 1985.”

Customers can expect new released announced on Post Design’s Instagram every 2-3 weeks. “Our goal is to introduce more design focused brands, both local and international, as we move forward in this next step,” says Guay.
