Two Architects, One Killer Hardware Boutique

Featuring better-than-big-box knobs, hooks, pulls, house numbers and everything in between
As experienced architect and designer, Megan Cassidy and Jane Son are used to tooling structures right down to their nuts and bolts. The duo first met on their first day of Architecture school at the University of Toronto in 1996, and after years of struggling to find distinctive architectural components for their projects, they decided to take matters into their own hands, launching a business that would fill the gap for design-forward hardware solutions. Enter Casson Hardware – a treasure trove of gemlike hardware culled from around the world.

Zenmai Brass and Carter S Hooks are both decorative and functional, adding character to any space.
“Our tastes are eclectic, but lean toward the modern and minimal,” says Son of the online boutique’s curios. “And our focus is on the quality and craftsmanship of the materials – we look for what could be heirloom quality pieces.” That includes Shayne Fox’s tumbled bronze knobs produced in Toronto (below), and Oji Masanori’s delicate brass hooks crafted in Japan (above). Both will develop unique patinas – or a “living finish” – over time.

Their meticulously curated collection features an array of design gems sourced from around the world. Pieces with bright colours and simple forms from Good Thing in New York and NakNak, a Taiwanese design collective, put fasteners and doorknobs in the foreground.

Hex Key is a key holder or hook inspired by the ubiquitous hex key tool.
Casson Hardware commitment to sourcing products that are not only beautifully crafted but also durable and sustainable reflects Megan and Jane dedication to supporting independent designers and small-scale manufacturers.
When asked about reconciling trends with timeless design in their collection, Cassidy says: “Good hardware is never redundant.” Amen. CASSONHARDWARE.COM
